Based on dummy readings in the crash tests, the Berlingo scored maximum points for its protection of the 1½ year dummy. Forward movment of the head of the 3 year dummy, sat in a forward-facing restraint, was not excessive but forces in the neck were high and chest acceleration indicated only fair protection of this body region. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing restraint to be used in that seating position. However, the markings for the switch are not sufficiently clear and the system was not rewarded. All of the restraint types for which the vehicle is designed could be properly installed and accommodated.

The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians' legs and scored maximum points. The performance of the front edge of the bonnet was more mixed: good in some areas but weak or poor in others. The bonnet surface provided mostly good protection to the head of a struck pedestrian but poor results were recorded at the bonnet edges and on the stiff windscreen pillars.

Electronic stability control is standard equipment. Early Berlingos had a seatbelt reminder for the driver's seat only. From VIN VF7 7J9HP0 EJ713660, the system covers both the driver and front passenger seats. A driver-set speed limitation deviceis available as an option and met Euro NCAP's requirements. The Berlingo does not have an autonomous braking system or lane support.

The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. However, the steering column and its lock, and the end of the facia were posed a risk of injury to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions and the score was penalised. The Berlingo scored maximum points in the side barrier test, with good protection of all body regions. A side impact thorax airbag and a head-protecting curtain airbag are both available as an option but were not fitted to the test vehicle. As the curtain airbag is not standard equipment a pole test was not performed. Protection against whiplash injury in a rear-end collision was rated as marginal for both the front and rear seats.
